Stone Products

It's hard to beat the beauty of natural stone and it shows. Granite countertops consistently top the "Most Wanted" list, due in part to their durability and rich composition. However; it is certainly not the only stone on the block. Modern Granite & Marble Inc. produces all types of stones ranging from granite and marble to engineered quartz. Modern Granite & Marble Inc. also supplies and installs the semi precious collection Concetto by Caesarstone.

Natural stone is a unique product created by nature;no two slabs are alike. Variations can occur between each slab, therefore differences between showroom samples and the slab selected for your home are possible. Upon request, Modern Granite & Marble Inc. will show you the slabs of stone selected for your project before they are produced and delivered.

Granite

Great for both outdoor and indoor use, granite is a coarse-grained, hard igneous rock consisting of quartz and feldspar accompanied by one or more dark minerals. With a wide range of colours, the texture is typically homogeneous but may be gneissic (a banded appearance) or porphyritic (inconsistent crystal sizes).

Granite is a very durable and versatile surface, making it ideal for kitchen countertops and fireplace surrounds. As one of the hardest stones on the planet, granite is scratch, weather, and water resistant. Additionally, this natural stone can be stain-resistant to hot grease and oil when sealed with a silicone-based impregnator.

Best uses: Kitchens, countertops, wet bars, entry walls, floors, fireplaces, vanities, shower walls, tub decks, furniture and sculptures.

Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of carbonate minerals such as dolomite and limestone. Relatively homogenous in appearance, its colour ranges in white, pinks, blues and greens.

The characteristic streaks within the stone are normally due to other mineral impurities such as iron oxides, clay, sand and silica. A softer stone in comparison to granite, marble is more porous and it not recommended for kitchen countertops. However; marble remains cooler in relation to room temperature, making it ideal for use as pastry boards.

Best uses: Vanities, tub decks, shower walls, fireplaces, entry walls, and floor.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a metamorphic rock created by intense heating and tectonic compression of sandstone. mineral impurities play a significant role in colour variation, with shades ranging in whites, reds, blues, yellows, browns, and greens.

In comparison to granite, quartzite is just as hard and durable, if not more, due to its highere quartz composition. Like granite, with proper sealing, quartzite can be stain resistant to oils and grease in addition to being scratch, water, and weather resistant.

Best uses: Kitchens, counter tops, wet bars, entry walls, floors, fireplaces, vanities, shower walls, tub decks.

Onyx

Onyx is a cryptocrystalline rock formed by alternating bands of chalchedony. Comprised of silica, quartz, and moganite, these bands are usually parallel to each other across the stone. Onyx ranges in colour from white to almost every colour.

Onyx is not recommended for kitchen counter tops. Like marble, onyx is a softer stone. However, onyx usually has dramatic, swirling patterns that make striking feature pieces for vanities, backsplashes, walls or other low-traffic areas. Uniquely, onyx is translucent and can be backlit for a beautiful, dramatic effect.

Best uses: Vanities, tub decks, shower walls, walls, fireplaces.

Engineered Quartz - CaesarStone

CaesarStone is 93% crushed quartz, one of nature's hardest minerals. The quartz is combined with high-quality polymer resins and pigments and then compacted under intense vibration, vacuum, and pressure into dense, non-porous slabs. The slabs are post cured, gauged to precise thickness, and polished to an enduring shine.

Although long used for the finest residential counter tops, CaesarStone is now offered as an attractive and versatile finish for commercial and institutional buildings. Our quartz surfacing is tough enough for the wear and tear on just about any interior surface, and beautiful enough for every architectural and decorating scheme.
